The Schippers Group
‘Let’s beat AMR’: our goal, our vision, also in Africa.
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health and economy. The excessive use of antibiotics in professional livestock farming is one of the main causes of AMR. Without systemic change, 10 million people could die from the effects of AMR by 2050, making it the leading cause of death. That is why The Schippers Group is committed to optimising hygiene in livestock farming.
Without an infection there is no disease.
Africa offers many opportunities in the field of improving and simplifying hygiene, business processes and biosecurity. These become visible by fully zooming in on local markets. Think of countless conversations with livestock farmers, sharing knowledge and experiences with (Dutch) companies and analysing the African working methods.
An example of this is mastitis, a major problem within African cattle farming, more than 80% of cattle farmers suffer from inflammation. The inflammation is often reduced with dips, but practical hygiene is not investigated. As a result of the return of mastitis in the short term. By a number of simple implementations, such as cubicles, hygiene and udder health, the problem is significantly reduced. In addition to products and equipment, there is a great need for knowledge and coaching. Our MS Academy and information platforms ensure that farmers always have access to our knowledge. Visual explanations with local examples make it easy to understand.
